COMMENTS FROM BAND ALUMNI What's up? My name is Jenny Stuart and I was a graduate of the '02 class. I played the 2nd bass drum in marching band and 1st trumpet in concert band. I'm currently stationed at Al Asad, Iraq. My unit, 2133rd Trans. Co. Iowa National Guard, was deployed on February 24, 2003 and we left Ft. McCoy, WI for Kuwait on May 30. As you can count we've all been in Iraq for seven months now and hopefully we only have about three or four to go. I just wanted to say to everyone that I appreciate their support and encourage you to think of the soldiers that are serving now. Everyone have a great year and hopefully I'll make it back for spring break, or the very least-graduation! Take care everyone!Jenny Stuart Class of 2002
I am quite happy to see the Muskie Band have such an elaborate and comprehensive web page, this internet site rates with some of the best websites for any band, whether it be high school or college. I am also proud to see the band experiencing such wonderful success in all facets of its programs, marching, concert and jazz. Being familiar with Mr. Heid's talent and work ethic, I am confident that the Muscatine High School Band Program will grow and flourish brilliantly in the future, and that it will continue to be a source of pride for all of Muscatine and those who have called Muscatine home at one time or another. After finishing my degree in Music Education/ French Horn from the University of Iowa (where I also had the honor of performing as drum major for the Hawkeye Marching Band) I continued on through graduate school at Indiana State University, completing a Masters Degree in Music Education. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach high school bands in Iowa, Indiana and Arizona, and was fortunate to work with outstanding students while achieving many unbelievable accomplishments. Much of this I would attribute to the knowledge and experience gained while I was a member of the Muskie Band. I am currently Director of Bands/Professor of Conducting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as I have served for almost 20 years. If anyone had ever told me while I was a kid growing up in Iowa that I would eventually live and work in Las Vegas, I would have thought they were crazy...but a Las Vegan I am (and I'm loving it!) I want to wish every success to current Muscatine Band members, and encourage you to keep working and pushing yourselves to the limit. Your band has a long and great tradition, and we are all very pleased to see your ongoing successes!
Hi, My name is Jenn Gettle (most of you who know me, know me as Jennifer). I am not a graduate of MHS, but I was a proud band member for the two years I attended. I played the trumpet. I was in marching band and wind ensemble. I moved after my sophomore year to Coal City, Illinois where I was in the marching band and wind ensemble there. I graduated in May of 2003. I am now attending Grand Valley State University (it's in Michigan). I am majoring in nursing, but I am still involved in the marching band. I just want to wish luck to the future Muskies. Stick with it! You won't regret it! Sincerely, Jenn Gettle

Hello, My name is Laura Liegois and my husband and I were both band members once. Actually we started dating in August of 1990 on a Japan band trip and 13 years later and 2 kids... we are still together. But I want to comment that the site is GREAT!!! Nice job and I have to say that some of my best memories of High School come from band! Laura Anderson - Liegois Class of 1993
Good Afternoon: I am a 1994 Alumni of MHS and a proud past member of the Muscatine High School Band. I played oboe in the Wind Ensemble and Clarinet (freshman) and the Bass Drum/Pit Percussion (soph-senior) in the Marching Band and Pep Band. I continued my music studies at Western Illinois University, where I received my B.A. in Music in 1998 and my M.A. in Music in 2000. My academic focus was in Music Theory and Composition. My principle instruments were oboe (undergrad) and pipe organ (grad). I currently work at WIU in a non-music staff capacity, but still take classes from the WIU Music Department. I try to check the MHS homepage every so often to see what is going on with the band program because it played such an integral role in shaping my life. I think the website is just wonderful and look forward to seeing more information about the MHS Instrumental Music Program, its current participants, and its continued successes.
